World of Vinyl

What is it?

Vinyl records are an analogue form of music storage that has been around for decades. Records are a tried and true medium for enjoying any genre of music, new or old.

How it Works

A record being played on a turntable. A record needle.

A groove is inscribed into a flat disc (typically made with polyvinyl chloride, or PVC), which is then inserted into a record player (also known as a phonograph, or turntable).

The record player spins the disc at either 33 1/3rd, 45, or 78 rotations per minute, depending on the record.

A needle is then lowered onto the spinning disc, which interprets the grooves by converting the needle's vibrations into audio.
